This short course is aimed at teachers who would like to look at strategies for helping students choose and develop the content of their topic and look at ways of helping their students perform better in the Topic Phase of their exam.

The overall aims are:
- to consider ways of getting students to effectively brainstorm topic ideas
- to encourage learners to exploit the language of the grade or level during the topic discussion
- to consider the recovery strategies that help handle interruptions in order to maintain the discourse
- to examine ways in which we can encourage our students to respond to the examiner’s contributions and requests for further information, clarifications and explanations
