Workshop "What do learners expect of the 21st Century teacher?"
Reflecting learning purpose - Trinity Workshop for private language teachers

The Trinity Italian Support team is pleased to announce our new Trinity Café aimed at teachers from private language schools, private training centres, cultural institutions and freelance teachers.
The collaborative format of the Trinity Café methodology involves teachers working in small groups to learn from each other and share activities that address the challenges encountered in today's classroom.
We will be discussing some of the challenges faced while preparing candidates for Trinity exams, and sharing strategies and techniques designed to help students overcome these difficulties.
We will also be exploring opportunities that are available to students who are seeking to develop their skills in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing in English.

Take away resources will be made available to all teachers participating.

Teachers with no experience in preparing students for Trinity exams will also work on familiarisation activities.

Abstract

As teachers we should be planning for our students’ future and therefore we need to rethink how we teach what we teach.
In today’s cross-cultural world, a wide range of skills are necessary in order to gain confidence and fluency.
English teachers need to be at the forefront of a constantly changing world and so must extend their repertoire of classroom activities in order to better equip students for the future.
When preparing for Trinity exams, students are able to take an active role in their own learning and achieve a sense of continuous progress which in turn motivates them towards further development of skills required for successful performance in life.

The Café will be divided into two parts to cover all available levels of Trinity exams.

GESE 1-4 and ISE F (CEFR Pre-A1 - A2)
All learners make progress at different paces, and this Café will focus on how teachers can approach and plan a variety of practical activities based on Trinity’s graded system, thereby ensuring that there is an opportunity for students to mark their progress at every stage of their learning.
Throughout the session, teachers will be invited to experiment with activities designed to get students to use English more spontaneously, preparing them for successful performance in the Trinity GESE 1-4 and ISE Foundation exams.
Particular focus will be given to areas such as:
• how to get students to answer questions with more than one word answers;
• how to encourage students to ask questions;
• how to avoid recitation during the topic phase; etc.

GESE 5-12 and ISE I, ISE II & ISE III (CEFR B1 - C1)
As society changes rapidly learners are faced with new communication needs and challenges, in particular in the world of work.
In order for students to develop communicative competence in Speaking & Listening and Reading & Writing, classroom activities must reflect real-life tasks that involve meaningful communication.
In this Café, teachers will be invited to experiment with activities and tasks that have been designed to engage learners and improve their performance in Trinity’s GESE and ISE exams at CEFR levels B1 to C1. We will be looking at creative activities that offer valuable practice in developing skills such as planning, presenting, active listening, problem solving, and collaboration, which are also essential in academic and professional contexts.
Particular focus will be given to areas such as:
• how to get students to avoid recitation during the topic phase;
• ways to prepare for the interactive/collaborative task;
• how to plan and organise a formal topic presentation (at C1);
• tips on how to develop and fine tune listening, reading and writing skills
